Chronic venous insufficiency is one of the diseases, which has the most different etiologies. This diagnosis contains the pathological abnormalities from the cosmetic varices to the severe venous morbidities resulting disablement. The significance of chronic venous insufficiency is underlined by the statistical data showing that 35-40% of the adult population is affected by this disease to a certain extent. Most of the diseases which lead to this syndrome are well known, but there is still missing the unified approach for the therapeutic judgement. In this study we wish to present a guideline and set up a systematic review of the important data of the different forms and of the pathologic proccesses leading to chronic venous insufficiency and to its complex treatment. The therapeutic suggestions presented here contain the possible treatment modalities involving those that are not in use any more. Those treatments that are well acceptedand used throughout the world today are printed in bold letters to help the readers.
