Comparative analysis of various heat pump schemes applied to C4 splitters

Abstract

Various heat pumping processes are studied at C4 separations in order to significantly contribute to the rational use of energy. The influence of heat pump type on the energetic and economic aspects is presented and the water management aspects of the technologies are indicated. From economic standpoint the different absorption heat pumping schemes proved to be the processes of choice for C4 separations but from the water management aspects the three mechanical heat pumping schemes became more favorable. All heat pumping systems show a reasonable energy household and better economic figures than the conventional design, using only steam and cooling water.
