Abstract

In response to a misunderstanding of our presentation of microconstants and microspecies, some of the relations between them and macrospecies and macroconstants are discussed, with specific reference for metal ion binding to catecholamines. For ligands, such as the catecholamines, of high and unknown basicity, either proton displacement constants or conditional stability constants avoid the need to know the ligand pKa values. The relation between the two formulations is derived.
