Clinical data and the ultrastructure of certain benign parotid tumors. I. Benign lymphoepithelial lesion

Research output: Contribution to journalArticle

Abstract

The electron microscopic examination of a man, aged 49, suffering from Mikulicz's disease has been carried out. The lesion consists of the damage of the epithelial cells forming glandular lumens, especially of islets containing epithelial cells, of a few mucin producing and basal cells, as well as of lymphocytes and lymphoblasts. In the authors' opinion and on the basis of ultrastructural signs it seems probable that the essence of the lesion is the proliferation occurring after the destruction of the pathologically differentiated cells of the glandular epithelium, as well as of the reaction consisting of lymphoid cells developing against the proliferation.
