Abstract

In discussing the evolution of the genetic material it is convenient to distinguish plasmid, viral, phage DNA, bacterial, mitochondrial, chloroplast and eukaryotic chromosomes. Beside the different types of chromosomes, this chapter also deals with the chromosomal gene arrangement, gene structure and function.
