Abstract

The relationship between flow intensity of the forced expiration (PEF, MEF75,50,25) and airway resistance, residual volume (RV/TC%), and vital capacity was examined in the case of 921 dust-exposed persons. With the latter the authors found a good positive correlation, while the increasing airway resistance and RV/TC% result in a diminishing of expiratory flow. MEF50 proved to be the most sensitive and accurate value of flow. The authors emphasize that not only the data of flow-volume diagram, but the traditional measurements of expiratory flow (FEV1 and Tiffeneau index) can show the increase of airway resistance and/or the decrease of elasticity as well.
