Change of Volume Due to Cahn's Inhomogeneity

Abstract

Spinodal decomposition takes place in such a way that the concentration changes continuously in the matrix, concomitant with the change of volume. Using the formalism of the nonlinear theory of elasticity, a relation is found between the dilatation and the mean square of the concentration deviation.
