Birth of hot matter in relativistic heavy ion collisions

Abstract

We extend the FRITIOF model for the description of the space-time evolution of a relativistic heavy ion collision. Particle orbits are tracked from the creation point on. Causally allowed string fragmentations during the period between successive collissions are included. Numerical results for 14.5A GeV 28Si+197Au and 200A GeV 16O+197Au collisions are presented.
