BANDWIDTH-LIMITED AMPLIFICATION OF 230-FS PULSES IN XECL.

Abstract

An earlier simple system for the generation of 5-ps UV pulses has been refined, decreasing the pulse duration to 230 fs. The system described uses an excimer laser with a twin tube configuration as a pump source for a subpicosecond dye laser system and as an amplifier. The results show that this simple arrangement is capable of generating subpicosecond transform-limited XeCl excimer pulses with a pulse duration given by the amplification curve of XeCl. The extension of this method to other excimer wavelengths is straightforward.
