Homeotropic films of a nematic liquid crystal with negative dielectric anisotropy were deformed by an electric field, in the presence of a transverse magnetic field. After removing the magnetic field, azimuthal reorientation of the director was observed. The kinetics of the reorientation process was investigated under various circumstances. The observations can be interpreted assuming a small pretilt of the director at the boundaries.
