Abstract

In the last decade, breakthrough in cardiology was overwhelming. Invasive cardiology - by the success of percutaneous procedures - has become the solution for various diseases and conditions. Perhaps an even greater result is the success of evidence based medicine in secondary prevention. Regarding the antithrombotic therapy of coronary atherothrombosis, trials suggest a simple and clear message: give loading dose aspirin and thienopyridine immediately at first medical contact to your patient with coronary atherothrombosis - no matter what treatment the patient gets later. After reperfusion, add high-dose statin, ACE-inhibitor and beta-blocker with combined antiplatelet therapy thus the patient gets the optimal "anti-atherothrombotic coctail".
