Approximate analysis of tall building structures for earthquake using the Timoshenko-beam

Abstract

High-rise buildings are investigated for earthquake using the continuum method. A replacement Timoshenko-beam is analyzed using the Response Modal Analysis with Mode superposition. Design charts are presented which enable the designer to determine easily and quickly the base shear force, the overturning moment, the top displacement and the maximum inter-story drift ratio of tall buildings subjected to earthquake.
