Application of the convolution potential sweep voltammetric method to the chlorine evolution reaction in nitromethane

Abstract

The convolution potential sweep voltammetric method was applied to the chlorine evolution reaction on a Pt electrode in nitromethane solution. In agreement with the results of galvanostatic measurements, the process can be described according to a recombination mechanism of the adsorbed Cl atoms. In a smaller range of overpotential, Langmuir-type adsorption is valid, while consideration of lateral interaction extended the validity of the equations to a larger range of overpotential.
