Abstract

Carrier-free 24Na radioisotopes (T 1 2 = 15.06 h) produced via the 27Al (n, α) 24Na reaction using an intense fast neu an MGC-20 cyclotron and a new injection technique were used for in vivo radioecological investigations. An advantage of the method is the measuring possibility of the water transport in healthy and sickened trees with low radioactive hazard and fast decrease of activity in the experimental area. The method was used to obtain information on the reasons for the new type of early and sudden death of trees in oak (Quercus petraea) forests in Hungary.
