Apolipoprotein e polimorfizmus Pick-demenciaban

Translated title of the contribution: Apolipoprotein E-polymorphism in Pick's dementia

Research output: Contribution to journalArticle

The polymorphism of apolipoprotein E (apoE) has been recognized as a genetic risk factor for different neurodegenerative disorders - as Alzheimer's dementia, vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia - with or without tau-protein related neuropathology. There are only a few data concerning the association of different apoE alleles with the relatively rare Pick's dementia. This fact gave us inspiration to study apoE allele frequency in Pick's dementia. In this study, 36 pathologically proven probands with Pick's dementia and 79 healthy control subjects were examined. The apoE epsilon 4 allele frequency was significantly higher (42%) in Pick's dementia as compared to the healthy control group (8%). These results indicate that apoE epsilon 4 allele is not a specific susceptibility factor for Alzheimer's dementia, and it could be present in other dementing disorders, like Pick's dementia.
