Abstract

New properties and functions were developed in cotton fibers by a slight carboxymethylation. The modified fiber has a slight acidic character and swells greatly in water to. In previous studies, a high sorption capacity and good soil release of such fibers were found. In the present work, the antibacterial effect of the modified fiber is presented. As the special properties belong to the chemically modified cellulose molecules, the modification is durable and can be used for various purposes.
