Abstract

Angio-renographic technics were employed to study renal vessels in rats treated with ACTH and with Piton (posterior pituitary lobe extract). Prior administration of ACTH followed by Piton produced marked renal vasospasm and acute tubular necrosis. The continued intensive spasm was limited to larger vessels and was responsible for the tubular necrosis because of the extended hypoxia of the renal substance. The investigation indicated that prior administration of ACTH in rats heightens the susceptibility of renal vessels to the vasoconstrictive action of Piton.
