An electron diffraction study on the vapors of tungsten trioxide

Abstract

Electron diffraction patterns were recorded on the vapors of tungsten tri oxide at about 1400 °C. Of the 6 models which were studied, the best agreement between experimental and calculated electron diffraction data was obtained for (WO3)3 species with a six-membered ring structure, although the presence of other polymeric species could not be ruled out. An average value of 1.77±0.02 Å for the length of the tungsten-oxygen bonds was determined.
