Abstract

The authors demonstrate the role of pictorial artistic expression in diagnosis and therapy of schizophrenic patients. In connexion with the theory of Stern they represent their work with acute and chronic patients using the visual expression and introduce the mother-child drawing test as diagnostic tool. An therapy helps to understand the schizophrenic experience and to fill the inner emptiness of these patients. A "return journey into the reality" shall be established. The authors describe the course of a group session in which the participants had to draw a foetus and also emphasise some cultural aspects of visual expression.
