An alternative optimized potential method for ensembles of excited states

Abstract

Optimized potential method (OPM) for ensembles of excited states was presented. OPM finds application when total energy is given as the functional of one-electron orbitals. An example was discussed by calculating ensemble and excitation energies of the helium atom using Krieger-Li-Iafrate (KLI) approximation. Calculations were exchange-only calculations and correlation can be included easily by knowing correlation functional.
