The anaesthesiology-intensive therapy is a young, altogether 50 years old speciality, featuring dynamic advances. This speciality has been fulfilling an increasingly significant and sovereign position. The aim of this review is not to show a detailed analysis of the last century, rather to present the changes, difficulties, successes and the spectacular development of this speciality by highlighting some remarkable national events of this period.
