Theoretical problems of the adsorption of a metal on another metal is shortly summarized. Changes of free enthalpy belonging to some pairs of metals are given. The effect of adsorbed metal on the corrosion of the other metal is described. It was established that the metals promoting the deposition of hydrogen increase the rate of corrosion and those decreasing the deposition inhibit corrosion. The effect of adsorbed atoms on the anodic process generally is small, except when they are forming some compound acting as a catalyzator.
