Different transition metal (Mo,Cr,Co,Rh and Ni) alumina preparations were studied in the catalytic conversion of cumene both on reduced and sulphided forms. Mo/Al2O3 catalysts loaded with other transition metals were tested as well. The Rh/Mo/Al2O3 composition exhibits the highest activity both in reduced and sulphided forms. The product composition indicates that both the carbenium ion type and free radical mechanism prevail on the catalyst.
