Activity of Platinum Blacks of Different Pretreatment in Cyclohexane Dehydrogenation

Abstract

Platinium black catalysts pretreated in hydrogen, air. helium or ethylene undergo sintering of various extent. Their initial activity as well as the rate of their deactivation depend on the pretreatment. This can be attributed to the astoichiometric component taken up: oxygen, carbon and/or hydrogen. The initial activity per unit surface as well as the stability against deactivation increases in the following order: “carbon-type”, “oxygen-type”, “hydrogen-carbon” and “hydrogen-type” platinum. Regeneration by air and hydrogen decreases the initial differences considerably but not entirely.
