The effect of gastrin and related polypeptides on acetylcholine release from the Auerbach plexus of guinea pig longitudinal muscle strip were studied. Gastrin, octapeptide amide of cholecystokinin, pentagastrin and caerulein released acetylcholine from longitudinal muscle strip. Noradrenaline and tetrodotoxin prevented both release of acetylcholine and contraction of the intestine produced by gastrin and related polypeptides.
