Abstract

Wiberg's angle was determined in the antero posterior pelvic radiograms of the fathers and mothers of 83 and 87 children, resp. with congenital luxation of the hip, as well as in 135 men and 100 women, of the same age, with normal pelvis and hip joint. In the parents of children with luxation of the hip the mean value and distribution of Wiberg's angle were significantly smaller. In the case of girls with dislocation of the hip, only the lower acetabular configuration in the mothers was found. In the development of congenital dislocation of the hip, of polygenic origin, the vestibular configurations of the parents, chiefly in women, may play an important role. However, this is not identical to acetabular dysplasia, developing secondarily after birth.
