Ab initio numerical studies on density-matrix asymptotics in extended systems

Abstract

Connections between localizability and density-matrix asymptotics are established, and the latter is documented numerically for polymeric chains. The generality of the exponential falloff for long-range density-matrix elements for two- or more-band systems is found. The exponent is found to be a natural measure of the localizability.
