A New Type of Brómate Oscillator: The Bromate-Iodide Reaction in a Stirred-Flow Reactor1

Abstract

Sustained oscillations and bistability have been observed in the reaction between bromate and iodide in acidic solution in a stirred tank reactor at 25 °C. This reaction appears to be the first brómate oscillator that requires a mechanism more analogous to that of chlorite oscillators than to that of other bromate systems such as the Belousov-Zhabotinskii reaction.
