Abstract

Doppler echocardiography (DE) provides valuable additional data on the direction, speed and abnormalities of blood flow in addition to the information provided by M mode and two-dimensional echocardiography. Thus veterinary cardiological diagnostics can be of full value only by applying DE. The authors summarize the indications and physical principles of this modality (Figures 1-7). They also demonstrate the methodology as well as technical aspects of DE (Table 1, Figures 8-13) and present physiological measurement values of the speed of blood flow regarding the different intracardiac valve regions (Tables 2-3).
