EFFETS DU FLUNITRAZEPAM (ROHYPNOL) SUR LE BLOC NEUROMUSCULAIRE (ETUDE CLINIQUE)

Translated title of the contribution: A clinical study on the effects of flunitrazepam (Rohypnol) in neuromuscular blockade

Abstract

The effects of flunitrazepam on neuromuscular blockade induced by pancuronium and succinylcholine are studied. Neuromuscular blockade was measured electrophysiologically by stimulation of the ulnar nerve at 30 to 200 Hz and contractions were recorded electromechanically. The effects of flunitrazepam on neuromuscular blockade induced by pancuronium were studied using a clinical pharmacologic model. The effects of these drugs were analyzed on 30 patients while 17 patients (of whom 6 received succinylcholine and 11 pancuronium) served as controls. The duration of action of succinylcholine after flunitrazepam was unchanged, while the intensity of neuromuscular blockade produced by pancuronium was decreased. However, the decrease was not clinically significant and the duration was unchanged. Flunitrazepam used before induction or during anesthesia does not significantly alter the duration of neuromuscular blockade produced by pancuronium.
