Abstract

The sequence of the 3′-terminal 43 nucleotides of 16S ribosomal RNA from the cyanobacterium Synechococcus AN PCC 6301 has been determined. This sequence is almost identical with the 3′-terminal sequence of 16S ribosomal RNA from maize chloroplasts. The evolutionary implications of these observations are discussed.
