Abstract

The authors have shown that with the use of the described hybrid excimer-dye laser setup, the theoretically shortest pulse duration that can be generated by a XeCl amplifier is achievable. By proper choice of the operational condition of the amplifier and by additional pulse compression, pulses of 170 fs duration are generated.
