Abstract

All of the six patients given β-endorphin treatment showed a certain improvement for a shorter or longer period. This improvement was restricted to the area of mood and activity. The nature of the improvement depended on the initial symptoms; in all cases they indicated a tendency to restore the homeostasis. It would appear that the more intensive the psychosis, the less the homeostatic influence of β-endorphin. In the 6 cases studied it is questionable whether β-endorphin had any influence whatsoever in relieving the psychosis.
